Depending on the diet you are following, fruits for weight loss can be a healthy part of your diet plan. This is because all diets, whether they are calorie-restricted, carbohydrate-restricted, calorie shifting, carbohydrate cycling or any other kind of weight loss program are going to tell you to put down the doughnuts and gummy bears. Sugar does not have a place in your fat loss program. So, you may find that you are craving something that satisfies your sweet tooth. So that’s where fruit comes into the diet equation. Fruit can be an excellent addition to meals to lose weight and can also be a healthy food to lose weight. One of our favorite diet plans Fat Loss 4 Idiots includes fruit in a big way (an entire day of fruit!) in a very effective program that burns belly fat like crazy.
Berries are the best fruits for weight loss
Hands-down, berries are always the first choice when it comes to fruits for weight loss. Low in sugar and high in fiber, these little gems pack a nutritional punch as they are loaded with anti-oxidants and all sorts of micro-nutrients. Any easy diet will include at least some berries, even the lowest carb ones. Blueberries always top the list of fruits for weight loss, followed by blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and cranberries. Cranberries are pretty hard to include in a low sugar scheme, though, as they really do require some sort of sweetness to balance out the tart. Beware of dried cranberries as they are loaded with sugar. Always read labels when you are buying dried berries. They make an awesome sweet healthy snack for weight loss, but pack a pretty good calorie punch, too. You always need to be aware of the sugar content in all dried fruits. While dried fruits are certainly better than candy, they can contain almost as much sugar and so really don’t count as fruits for weight loss purposes.
Citrus fruits for weight loss
Grapefruit are known to be one of the excellent fruits for weight loss to include in your regimen. They act on the metabolism in a very favorable way to help ignite fat burning centers. Lemons and limes have almost no carbohydrates and very few calories and can really inject some pizzazz into your food. Try squeezing lemon on your salad instead of vinegar for a different taste profile. Oranges pack a pretty big carbohydrate punch so these should be used sparingly in your weight loss program. Always stick to eating the entire orange rather than just having a glass of orange juice. Orange juice lacks the fiber that the whole fruit has and is a real insulin spiker!
Apples are outstanding fruits for weight loss
The humble apple is a standout when it comes to picking the best fruit for weight loss. Apples are rich in fiber (always eat the skin, of course) and a source of pectin. Pectin is a substance that helps to resist the absorption of fat and suppress appetite. Apples are satisfyingly sweet and crunchy so they can go a long way toward keeping you away from other, less healthy alternatives.
All fruits are not created equal when it comes to fruits for weight loss. Melons are generally very low in calories, but you also should be taking into account the glycemic index of the fruits you are eating as well as the net carbohydrates. Watermelon, for example, is very low in calories, but the sugar it does contain shoots straight into your bloodstream. Pineapple is also extremely high in sugar and should be reserved for a post workout treat. Likewise, bananas are very high in sugars and also fairly dense in calories so they should be eaten sparingly when considering fruits for weight loss.
Healthy foods to lose weight can certainly include fruits for weight loss, but it is best to always consider fruit a bit of a treat because of the impact fruit can have on your blood sugar. As we have seen in many of our easy diets, how your insulin is regulated is a key component in getting the most out of any weight loss program. Fruits for weight loss can be incorporated with care.
